Clinical Informatics Specialist

Full-Time
Owen Sound

Reporting to the Director, Clinical Informatics the Clinical Informatics Specialist will assist the GBIN partner hospitals to design, implement, evaluate and optimize clinical components of technology initiatives, such as ordersets and nursing/clinical pathways to support CPOE and Clinical documentation using informatics technologies that enhance the quality and safety of care for patients across GBIN for many years to come. Working closely with clinical and IT staff, the Clinical Informatics Specialist will provide leadership to support the development, implementation, adoption and sustainability of clinical driven technology initiatives to end-users for the GBIN Hospital Information System. Combining both clinical and software knowledge and competencies, the Clinical Informatics Specialist will promote and support the application of Evidence Based Practice.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required:

  • Baccalaureate degree in a clinical discipline, health informatics or information management, or equivalent experience
  • Regulated Health Professional and member in good standing with the college and/or association
  • Courses in Health Information or Computer Sciences, or equivalent
  • Solid working knowledge of Cerner applications and associated clinical workflows required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in health informatics with a focus on clinical systems that implement order sets and clinical pathways
  • Minimum 3 years’ clinical experience in an acute care hospital setting with thorough knowledge of physician/provider, nursing and allied health workflow
  • Minimum of 3 years’ of progressively responsible leadership experience within the health care sector, with proven effectiveness in leading change
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the provision of evidence-based practice in a clinical setting
  • Experience with application of adult learning methodology
  • Planning and project management skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders and organizations
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve in a proactive manner, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in changing work environments
  • Demonstrated ability to create and execute plans and ensure timelines are met while working with a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience in navigating electronic systems, including but not limited to internet browsers for electronic research, electronic conferencing, etc.
  • Ability to travel off-site and on occasion travel outside the region to fulfil the mandate of this position; a valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable vehicle to travel are required
  • Works in accordance with established hospital(s) safety Policies & Procedures.
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
  • Knowledge of and adherence to GBHS ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence)
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at GBHS through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
