Payroll Coordinator

Owen Sound

Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Payroll Coordinator participates as an active team member in the preparation, development, coordination and maintenance of bi-weekly payroll processes for both union and non-union employees. The role of this position is to ensure timely and accurate payment to all employees, proper remittance of all source and other deductions, and reconciliation of any applicable premiums in accordance with GBHS policies and collective agreements. The Payroll Coordinator also participates and assists with the fulfillment of other duties of the Payroll department including but not limited to the annual preparation of employee T4s, the annual pension report and the calculation of vacation entitlements.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:


  • High school diploma and applicable post-secondary education

  • Completion of CPA courses preferred

  • Experience in a unionized environment

  • Previous experience working in a payroll function and/or department

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications (to be tested)

  • Ability to utilize database report writing and database query applications

  • Ability to use computerized and automated Payroll system

  • Ability to focus and concentrate on detail for sustained periods of time

  • Ability to work under pressure and complete a high volume of work within deadlines

  • Ability to handle confidential material with discretion

  • Ability to work accurately with figures

  • Ability to identify and document efficiencies in payroll processes

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent analytical reasoning skills

  • Knowledge of basic accounting procedures

  • Ability to work additional hours to meet deadlines as required

  • Recent satisfactory attendance and performance records

  • Knowledge of and adherence to GBHS ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence)

  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at GBHS through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
