Locum Emergency Physician - Owen Sound Hospital

Position Precis:

Grey Bruce Health Services operates six hospitals in the Grey Bruce region serving a population of approximately 170,000. Our vision is to offer quality health care close to home. Our hospital in Owen Sound is a Level 2 regional referral centre, and the largest of our sites, offering a full range of specialty services including complex surgeries, total joint replacements, cancer surgeries, MRI and CT scans. We also have thriving rural hospitals located in Lion’s Head, Markdale, Meaford, Southampton and Wiarton, servicing a range of ambulatory, in-patient and emergency needs. We have 1,600 staff, and over 170 physicians working in our hospitals. Caring for patients is our passion and quality care is our priority.

Team

  • Having recently expanded our complement to 10 full-time Emergency Medicine physicians, our strong, collegial team currently has room for locum positions.
  • We offer flexible work hours and rotations.

 

Service Delivery

  • With annual volumes of over 36,000 visits, double coverage shifts, 24-hour labs, excellent specialty back-up, and comprehensive diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, PACS capability), our modern facilities are exceptionally well equipped.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Interested candidates should be a FRCPC or a CCFP (EM).
  • Independent license to practice in Ontario.

  • Competitive hourly rate and a percentage of shadow billings
  • HOCC allowance

THE COMMUNITY - OWEN SOUND

The City of Owen Sound is also known as “The Scenic City”. It is located only 2 hours from Toronto on the southern shores of Georgian Bay in a valley below the sheer rock cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment. Owen Sound is characterized by a magnificent harbour and bay, two winding rivers, tree-lined streets, an extensive parks system, and beautiful waterfalls.

Owen Sound is the seat of the County of Grey government, and is the location for a number of regional, provincial and federal government offices. There are twelve elementary schools, three secondary schools, and six private schools in addition to a Georgian College campus.

Points of interest include four conservation areas (Inglis Falls, Indian Falls, Hibou and Pottawatomi), Kelso Beach and the City’s waterfront trail system, Harrison Park, Grey Roots Museum & Archives, Tom Thomson Memorial Art Gallery, Billy Bishop Home & Museum, Owen Sound Marine & Rail Museum and the Farmers’ Market.

Citizens and visitors can enjoy extensive recreation facilities and opportunities in Owen Sound. The City operates two arenas, and numerous soccer and baseball complexes. Three golf courses serve the City. Excellent boating and fishing are available on the bay, and during the winter residents can access thousands of kilometres of snowmobile trails, cross country skiing areas, and downhill skiing clubs.

About the Emergency Department:

Our local Emergency Department physicians provide 24/7 coverage for the GBHS - Owen Sound site while also operating as the regional base hospital for EMS services.

The Owen Sound site offers 24/7 extensive multidisciplinary back up for the entire region as well as in house 24 hour laboratory and radiology services including CT and MRI.

As the district stroke centre we also operate as the stroke bypass centre for the entire Grey-Bruce region.

In addition, GBHS also operates emergency departments in all 5 regional sites (Meaford, Markdale, Lion's Head, Southampton, Wiarton) with 24 hour service provided by local physician groups.
